1. Using the beak tip — without moving its body, it extends its long beak to pluck fruit off the tip of a branch.
2. A quick toss — still holding the fruit, it tilts its head back, lightly tossing the food into the air.
3. Swallowing whole — it catches the falling fruit precisely deep in its throat, swallowing it whole.
4. Omnivorous — it loves fruit most, but it's an omnivore that also eats insects, frogs, and small lizards.

A bird that sleeps covered by its own tail

A special body structure perfectly adapted to life in the trees

• A sleeping posture — when sleeping in a narrow tree hollow, it rests its large beak on its back and folds its tail forward, snugly covering its body.
• Zygodactyl feet — with 2 toes facing forward and 2 facing backward, it can grip high branches firmly without slipping.
• No down feathers — adults have no insulating down feathers, which suits them well for the hot tropical climate.

• A home in a tree hollow — rather than building its own nest, it settles into a hole dug by a woodpecker or a natural gap in a tree.
• Seed bedding — it lines the floor with the seeds it's eaten and spat out, using them as a hygienic bed that helps manage waste.
• Shared parenting — the male and female pair take turns incubating the eggs and devotedly feeding the chicks.
• Living alongside bees — it sometimes keeps a colony of stingless bees beneath the nest, a clever symbiosis that helps keep predators away.
